Super Fun Spring Activity That Your Kids Will Love!

Inexpensive, Easy & Fun!  When we adopted our two oldest children, they did not speak any English so I was always looking for ways to make activities enjoyable but also where they could learn something. One day I kind of stumbled into this fun activity as a way to include some fun outdoor time but still teach them a few things as they played.  What’s funny is that I came to learn ALL kids seem to LOVE this easy activity! Our youngest two boys really enjoyed it when they were little. We would always laugh so much as they played this game.  It is a lot of fun.

What is it? It’s actually like a Hop Scotch obstacle course-type game that I created. I would get colored chalk and make a big START HERE space. Then I would start creating a maze of things they had to do, sing, accomplish, etc. until the end of the Hop Scotch.  For example, I might make some typical blocks of hopscotch with numbers and they would hop on one foot if it was a single square and then jump on both feet if it was two squares side by side.  Then I might do a line in a different color, and they’d have to go foot by foot and balance as they followed that line. Then it might end in a big circle that said, “Sing the alphabet song.” Next, it might say stand on one foot for 20 seconds and they would have to stand there and do it over and over until they could reach the milestone.  Next, it might say to walk backward on the line. Next, it might say count by 2’s to 50. Next, it might say spin 3 times and skip to the next square.  You get the idea. You create the pattern based on the ages of the kids in your family.

Here is a sample idea of what your driveway would look like but with chalk:

What do you need? Colored chalk and concrete, a sidewalk and driveway where you can write. We used to park our cars in the street to give us plenty of room for the interactive Hop Scotch.

Thinking back, when the kids were young, this was one of their favorite games to play outside. We would take chalk to their grandparent’s house and fill their driveway for all of the cousins. Laughter and fun abounded. Sometimes it’s the simplest of things that are most enjoyable.  The interactive Hop Scotch-obstacle course is definitely in that category. I hope your family will enjoy it as much as we did.

Blessings,

Jeanne
